Today was my sister’s graduation from elementary school! It was pretty interesting, seeing how online graduation happens in one particular school. Obviously elementary school graduation isn’t seen as importantly as high school or college, but it was still fun and cool to watch! I hope this post is interesting to you and that you enjoy it. There were several stages of the ceremony. First, there was a overall welcome led by the principal. The principal presented an important award to a student. Then, a second award was presented to another student. I wasn’t really watching this part, so I don’t know much about it, but I know that’s what happened.

There were three classes of graduating 5th graders. Each class had a separate section of the ceremony in which they received their diploma/certificate and said a few words. By a few words, I mean literally a few words. Each class’ time started off with the teacher saying a bit about how the class was, and then moving on to the ceremony. Each student’s name would be called out and someone would hand them a certificate (earlier delivered to their houses.) The student would say a few words and then the next student would be called. At the end of the section, the teacher would call for the tassel of their graduation cap to be moved from right to left. It was a very fun and exciting moment for everyone!
The next part of the ceremony was really sweet. Several students had prepared a message to share about their teachers, principal, and school. They read their sentiments and presented gifts to who they were talking about. The fifth grade class had raised over a thousand dollars to be donated to the school and to be used in the library! It was very cool and the librarian also said a short speech.
This next part was my personal favorite; a screenshare of a fun PowerPoint accompanied by music with pictures of students throughout the year, each student getting a slide dedicated to them showing the student at different ages and including a quote that inspires them. In addition to the students’ slides, there were pictures of students at school that had been taken throughout the year scattered within the PowerPoint. I think it was super funny and really awesome seeing everyone and looking for familiar faces within the photos. The music included some bomb pop songs and some weird happy music, and it was pretty great overall. The ceremony ended with “closing remarks” and everyone throwing their cap in the air. It was very fun!
Overall, I think this graduation went well and it was a really nice way of celebrating even through the COVID-19 pandemic.
